Well, I have started couponing and thought I would pass a few savings on to you.

I have also started purchasing a three month supply of our prescriptions and this has added to our savings. You can usually do this through your insurance provider. You can also check your local Walmart to see if discounts are available by purchasing a 3 month supply of prescriptions.

Doctor Visits – January 2010

We visited the Doctor last week. My 4 year old has been doing really well so far. We did switch his antihistimine as the Allegra did not seem to be working very well. He is now taking 1 Teaspoon of Triaminic Cold and Allergy twice a day. It seems to be working. So currently he is taking the following:

Pulmicort – .5mg/2ml - Once a day and a maximum of twice a day if needed.

Xopenex – .63mg/3ml - As needed.

Nasacort - One squirt in each nostril at night after treatments above.

Triaminic Cold and Allergy (Orange in Color) – One Teaspoon in the morning and one before bed

Saline Nasal Spray – One squirt each nostril prior to taking Nasacort

It’s Earth Day

Happy Earth Day everyone! Do something great for the earth today. Plant a tree, walk instead of drive or try to change just one thing in your home that will be positive for the planet and yourself. One small thing we have started doing in our house is to use Re-Usable Dryer sheets instead of your regular throw-away sheets. It reduces waste and it is one more way to keep harsh chemicals off of you and your family’s clothes and bodies.

Green Cleaning – Disinfectant

As you probably know the products we use to clean our homes can agitate allergies and asthma. Here are a few recipies I found from Annie B. Bond.com that you can use to create a safe disinfectant for your home:

#1: Straight white distilled vinegar. By far the easiest and the cheapest solution, put the vinegar into a spray bottle and spray straight onto the area of concern. Don’t rinse. The smell will dissipate in a few days. Why the the white distilled? Organic apple cider vinegar will be fine, too, but it could stain.

#2: Straight white distilled vinegar with a few drops of lavender essential oil. I recommend this formula for those who don’t like the smell of vinegar. The drops of lavender mellow the smell considerably, and they also provide some antibacterial qualities of their own.

#3: The most ambitious formula but also the most fun, make the famous Vinegar of the Four Thieves, made famous during the Black Plauge when a family of perfumers used it to rob the dead, knowing that the antiseptic herbs would protect them from the germs. To make it place a small handful each of lavender, rosemary, sage, rue and mint in a large jar, and cover completely with organic apple cider vinegar. Cover tightly and set for six weeks. Strain into a spray bottle.

March 2009 Doctor Visit

Last week (Thursday) we visited the Allergy/Asthma Doctor. She took a look at Caleb and said his lungs sound much better. No more whistling is what she said. I’m continuing the Xopenex and Pulmicort 2 times a day. He still has a “wet” cough. It is occuring at night but it isn’t that bad. Once the cough becomes less frequent the Doc. suggested I give him 1/2 a Xopenex in the morning and night then when it turns into a “dry” cough I will stop giving him Xopenex and continue the Pulmicort . The goal is to keep him off the Prednisolone.

I have also started giving him Nasacort at night. The pollen count is so high here. On Saturday it was over 11( that is on a scale of 1-12 with 12 being the highest). Craziness.

So currently he is taking the following:

Pulmicort – .5mg/2ml - Morning and Night

Xopenex – .63mg/3ml - Morning and Night

Xlear Nasal Spray - After treatments above and after being outside.

Nasacort - One squirt in each nostril at night after treatments above.

Allegra - One tsp. Morning and Night

Please let me know if your little ones are on medications for Asthma and what their routines are.

Welcome! I’m glad you stopped by! I know you may be little hungry from partying and your sinuses may be bothering you, especially if you are in Florida, so lets cook up some chili to clear your head and get some energy!
This is what you will need:
1 lb ground chuck – this needs to be browned
16oz Can Tomato Sauce
1 can Progresso Kidney Beans Drained
3/4c to 1 can water
1 Tablespoon Chile Powder
salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste
Tobasco – At least 8 drops – The more the better
Mix everything together in a pot if you want to eat it right away – cook until just about ready to boil or place in crock pot on low for 8 hours to eat later – don’t forget the corn chips!

Why does it clear the sinuses you ask? It’s the Capsaicin. It reduces pain and helps clear up your head. Not in the mood for chili but still you need to “clear” your head? Well your in luck. You can snort it. That’s right try this: Sinol. I dare you! Sinol contains Capsaicin, are you brave enough to try it?

The Coughing is Less Frequent

This week I didn’t up Caleb’s Xopenex treatments to three times a day as planned we just weren’t home enough. I did start giving him the Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with his apple juice. I only gave it to him once a day in the mornings and it really has helped his cough. He says his asthma is gone now which is good but I don’t think it is completely gone. We visit his asthma Dr. next week and hopefully she will want us to drop down to only one Xopenex treatment a day. We will see!

The Pollen level this week in our area has been at 8.6. The Predominent Pollen is Oak, Grass and Myrtle.

Finished the Prednisolone

Caleb has been off of the Prednisolone for a few days now. He is taking Pulmicort and Xopenex twice a day. Last night he started coughing. He had at least two instances where his coughing was a bit excessive. Tomorrow I will start giving him Xopenex three times a day to see if that will ease his night coughing. I’ve also started giving him Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar in his apple juice again. I give him about a teaspoon in his juice once in the morning and then again in the evening. It has helped ease his symptoms in the past so I figured it is worth starting this routine up again. I found this home remedy from the Allergy Asthma Zone website. Take a peek – Maybe one of the remedies they list will help you!
